The fastest and easiest way obtaining Hungarian birth, marriage or death certificates is to call the municipality and ask them directly through the phone. One of my customers even got them to email a copy of it to him right away (he was in danger of having his second marriage annulled). However this only works if you speak Hungarian or can get somebody to call for you who speaks Hungarian. Also don’t forget the 6 hour time difference mind mind the customer service hours.

The easiest way to obtain proof of your divorce from Hungary is to get a copy of your marriage certificate from the municipality where you got married. When a divorce decision comes into effect, the court notifies the registry and they add a note of it to the original record. When they issue a new copy of your marriage certificate, there will be a note on it about the no. of the decree and the date when it came into effect. In the US you still have to have this translated and notarized, but it is much faster and a lot cheaper then having your whole divorce decision translated.

I would like to warn everybody that they only accept cash or money order at the Hungarian Consulates, so before going there to submit your citizenship application, better call and ask them how much it is going to be and take that much and a little bit more cash with you.
